Love That Is Enough

I love you and I can’t help it. “I love you too but love is never enough”, I responded. I had no clue what those words really meant. The truth is that I was searching for “enough”. I was in an unhealthy  relationship – it was clear. Accepting that fact and admitting to myself that it just wasn’t working was difficult. Free advice: never try to be God to another person. Phew! I had done all I could do to change a whole human and make my relationship with this human work. But this human’s so called “love” was never enough. I was searching for more. I felt empty and incomplete. I was searching for the right thing in the wrong place.

Finding the strength to walk away was not as difficult as fighting the fear of the unknown future. What if…? What if…?

All my questions faded away as I stood in a crowded auditorium as Travis Greene ministered at a Christian event I attended. It was truly the stillness for me. The peace that came with recognizing that the God who created the universe loved a confused and broken me. The heart-stirring truth I discovered was that God cares about my life and wants to be a part of it.

Lost in the moment, I felt at peace as we sang about God’s love. With my eyes closed while I reflected on the lyrics I was singing, God reminded me of His unwavering and unfailing love. Though crowded, I was convinced it was just God and I in the auditorium.

If that night was a movie, that would’ve been the scene where my knight in shining armor rushed into my story just in time to make the rescue.

That night, I discovered love that was enough. Love that I didn’t have to earn. Love that I never ever have to question. Love that I can be secure in.
