Times & Seasons

time watch clock hours

Every move of God has an appointed time. Can you remain faithful while God works behind the scenes? Can you trust God when you are in a hidden place? What do you do when your present looks nothing like the future God showed you?

Abraham is a great example to learn from. We find out in 4 (Genesis 12:1-3; 13:14-18; 15:1-21; 17:1-22) different chapters about God’s covenant with him. Genesis 17 reads

“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am [a]Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of [b]many nations. No longer shall your name be called [c]Abram, but your name shall be [d]Abraham; for I have made you a father of [e]many nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.”

In our present generation, if you could imagine someone who is lets say, over 50 years and childless, being told by God that he or she will be the father of many, what do you think their reaction would be like? I think of responses such as “God me?” “No way” “Scientifically…..(followed by multiple theories)”. We live in a generation where having faith seems too long of a process and it’s way easier to just give up and do things our way BUT come with me to Hebrews 6:15 which reads “And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.”

God told Abraham he will be a father of many BUT he had to wait 25 years for this promise to manifest itself. Sometimes all it takes is patience and holding on to your faith that the God who cannot lie will come through for you. We are very familiar with the scripture that says “those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” but once it’s time to hold on to that word, we forget it!

Take notice of Genesis 21:2 which reads “For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.” This means there was a “set time”, an “appointed time”. Abraham could have had Isaac and yet not become the father of many. The “set time” ensured that the promise was birthed at the right time, in order that it may manifest to the fullest.

It’s perfectly okay that we make plans but always keep in mind that God’s right time may upset your plans. He knows best. Before you were formed, He knew you. When the time is right, nothing stops the move of God. Let’s learn to be patient with the process and hold on to our faith knowing that He who has promised, will ensure it comes to pass.
